Having a neutral colored pair of sandals for summer is a must. Something that goes with almost every outfit, allowing you go get out the door and into the sunshine as quickly as possible! Not to mention, it’s a known fashion rule that wearing a nude shoe causes your legs to look elongated, or thats at least what we like to tell ourselves!:)

Bootie Trend

photo 1 photo 2 photo 3 photo 4 photo 5 photo6It’s that time of year again….another new season.  By now, you know how much I love the change of seasons, particularly fall.  Why?  Because I L-O-V-E fall fashion:  Denim, cashmere, leather and more!  But, my heart really belongs to shoes (as those of you who follow my blog know).  And, the shoes that have been walking in our door; I am head-over-heels in  lllllooooovvvvveee with.   The trend in shoes this fall is again the boot.  Look for boots with great texture and color and with an emphasis being on the bootie. I perused the store today and snapped photos of some of my favorites (notice this is plural rather than singular).  I will share with you my current must-haves, but please note that there may be more to come because we have shoes arriving daily!  Pic 1:  Donald Pliner military inspired boot in distressed leather…..let’s just have a moment to take this beautiful boot in…………….ahhhhh.  Yes, Donald Pliner is crazy comfortable as a plus, plus, but this isn’t about that, it is just an amazing looking boot that you can’t pass on.  Pic 2:  Ugg Bailey Bow…Ugh! Which color will I pick….black, dusty rose or navy? They all are darling and will all keep my toes toasty warm at the ice rink this winter watching my boys play hockey!  Is it wrong for me to get all three?  Pic 3:  VC Signature by Vince Camuto suede and patent smoking slipper/loafer.  Wear it with denim or wear it with a great pencil skirt….however you like….just wear it!  Pic 4:  G double R….grrrr…..RED Valentino sexy leather and velvet bootie.  This will definitely get some attention from onlookers…..such as your husband you’ve been married to for 21 years!   Pic 5:  Style, comfort and sensibility all wrapped up in one….from my most favorite shoe designer….Stuart Weitzman.  This little quilted bootie happens to be waterproof….and happens to be on my checklist to bring for New York market trips and everything in between!  Pic 6: Frye boots (and handbags) ….new to our line-up this year.  We are so excited to have Frye in store  for you (and me)!   The black style looked fabulous with our new black denim from Rich & Skinny…I’m just sayin’.   Leigh’s wants to be your shoe store….we are brimming with the BEST shoes from your favorite designers this season.  We invite you to stop in and pick your favorites!

Wow, what a busy week it was at Leigh’s. You are so supportive of our store and we appreciate that with the many choices you have for shopping that you choose to shop locally at Leigh’s. In return, we have always made a commitment to give back to our community. Wednesday evening we had two wonderful events we were involved with.

First, we partnered with Fitzgerald’s men store and Snapdragon children’s boutique for The Dwelling Place “Where Fashion Meets Art” fashion show held at the Goei Center. This event raises money for two of Dwelling Place’s housing communities: Liz’s House and Bridge Street Place. This housing is made available to women and children in need. We enjoyed working with our guest models (leaders in our community) to style them in the hottest fashion trends of the season. We are proud to assist in this event for such a worthwhile cause.

While all of that was happening at the Goei Center, part of our team was at GRAM. There we partnered with Kendall College of Art & Design to sponsor AIGA West Michigan’s Kate Spade event which featured speaker Katia Kuthie, Kate Spade’s Director of Creative Services. Hosted at the Grand Rapids Art Museum it was also the perfect venue for a fashion show that showcased Kendall Fashion Design student’s fashion creations from materials that had former uses and identities. Look at the pictures I’ve included in this post….how crazy talented are these students?! As you know we exclusively carry Kate Spade handbags, apparel and shoes in West Michigan, so it was so exciting to be a part of this event!

Thanks to my entire Leigh’s team for all their efforts in the making of these two very successful events. And thanks to The Dwelling Place and AIGA for giving us the opportunity to be a part of your special evening.

Fall Denim

Everyone knows my love affair with shoes, but I have developed a deep affection for something new this season…..brocade denim.  That’s not to say I’m still not infatuated with shoes; it’s just to convey there is room in my heart for more than just shoes.  Honestly, how can I resist when Seven for all Mankind, DL1961 and J Brand send in these skinnies with the tapestry overlay?  Of course, I need one of each.  I already have great cashmere sweaters that will look fabulous paired back to this denim and I do need something new to go with my cashmere, right?  Thank you for agreeing with me and understanding.  I am feeling better  now that I have confided in you.  Rest assured that I will be just as supportive of you when you come to Leigh’s and decide you also need one of each!

4th of July

I just love the 4th of July!  It’s such a fun holiday.  Yes, it’s our country’s celebration of independence, but it’s also a great excuse to secure some new fashion!  My family’s day of festivities begins at 11am with the Grandville 4th of July community parade which we attend with our friends the Segards.  This is actually our 10th anniversary of attending the parade together. It’s such wonderful, wholesome family fun.  One thing that my friend Tina taught me early on,  is that you only show up at the parade with your entire family decked out from head to toe in red, white and blue. (The first year we went with the Segards, our attire was multicolored. Tina was not pleased….and the group picture of our families that year is not nearly as cute as the other years. Hey, what can I say, we didn’t know, but we did learn!)  So every year a shopping excursion is needed to secure patriotic attire for the entire family.  Fortunately, when it comes to what I will wear, I can take a lap in the store the morning before (as I did this morning) and come up with an adorable ensemble that Tina will be proud of!  This year I will be sporting a red Skinny Tee layered with a blue Michael Stars dress that has a white pin stripe running through it and some, oh so darling, red Cole Haan sandals.  And if I must confess, I couldn’t help myself, I also splurged on a pair of Dolce & Gabana sunglasses.  (You know how sunny it’s going to be!) Now after our parade going, we are off to my parent’s house on Lake Michigan for a day at the beach, a shrimp boil (another favorite of mine) and evening fireworks. For me, this is a perfect holiday! Parade + Lake Michigan + Family & Friends = Happiness!

Enjoy your 4th!  And don’t forget to wear your red, white and blue!
