Wow, what a busy week it was at Leigh’s. You are so supportive of our store and we appreciate that with the many choices you have for shopping that you choose to shop locally at Leigh’s. In return, we have always made a commitment to give back to our community. Wednesday evening we had two wonderful events we were involved with.

First, we partnered with Fitzgerald’s men store and Snapdragon children’s boutique for The Dwelling Place “Where Fashion Meets Art” fashion show held at the Goei Center. This event raises money for two of Dwelling Place’s housing communities: Liz’s House and Bridge Street Place. This housing is made available to women and children in need. We enjoyed working with our guest models (leaders in our community) to style them in the hottest fashion trends of the season. We are proud to assist in this event for such a worthwhile cause.

While all of that was happening at the Goei Center, part of our team was at GRAM. There we partnered with Kendall College of Art & Design to sponsor AIGA West Michigan’s Kate Spade event which featured speaker Katia Kuthie, Kate Spade’s Director of Creative Services. Hosted at the Grand Rapids Art Museum it was also the perfect venue for a fashion show that showcased Kendall Fashion Design student’s fashion creations from materials that had former uses and identities. Look at the pictures I’ve included in this post….how crazy talented are these students?! As you know we exclusively carry Kate Spade handbags, apparel and shoes in West Michigan, so it was so exciting to be a part of this event!

Thanks to my entire Leigh’s team for all their efforts in the making of these two very successful events. And thanks to The Dwelling Place and AIGA for giving us the opportunity to be a part of your special evening.

Leigh’s and Fitzgerald’s Mens Store were pleased to partner with Dwelling Place for There’s No Place Like Home:  An Evening of Fashion and Art to benefit two very important housing communities that assist women facing homelessness and women who are survivors of domestic violence: Liz’s House and Bridge Street Place.     Dwelling Place did an exceptional job securing local celebrities, community leaders and business executives to step out of their normal roles and into the modeling profession for the evening.  We enjoyed working with everyone.  Thank you for wearing our clothes so well – you walked the runway with confidence and looked great!  More thank yous… Dwelling Place – thanks for inviting Leigh’s and Fitzgerald’s to be a part of your event, to all the attendees – thank you for helping to make the event successful – you were a wonderful audience, to the Leigh’s and Fitzgerald’s team – well done!   It was a fantastic night!

Back From New York!

What an incredible time we had in market this week!  This might be hard to grasp given that it is February and we still haven’t thawed out yet….but we were in New York to look at Fall 2011 merchandise.  We saw so much incredible fashion!!!  Our week started out with us visiting a new designer to Leigh’s…Shamask…Dutch designer, Ronaldus Shamask, was in the showroom (pic 1) talking to us about his designs – what a treat – loved his designs!  Then I have to tell you about this new restaurant we found (My friend, Patricia, spends a lot of time in NYC for work and recommended it as her new favorite):  Spice Market  What a cool spot and yummy food!!  It’s in the Meatpacking District and worth the cab ride if you are coming from Midtown Manhattan.  Lucky for us, we were at Rena Lange’s showroom (which, by the way, looked AMAZING)  for our last appointment of the day and Spice Market was just around the corner….just waiting for us to partake in a fabulous meal after a long day in market (pic 2:  Deb, Patrick, Rebecca, Judy).  Yesterday, we had more great appointments….one being Ralph Lauren Black Label.  Pic 3 is from their showroom.  Let’s just call it chocolate brown, louden luxe  or ” Honey, can we turn the heat down in the house this winter….I’m saving for my Ralph fall fashion!”   Finally, I had to throw in the less glamorous side of buying trips (pic 4:  Patrick, Rebecca, Deb, Judy)….airport boredom.  Yes, LaGuardia (affectionately known as LGA) is not necessarily my favorite part of the trip.  Fortunately, we were on time this go round….so it made for a very happy ending to our very exciting buying trip!!

Ralph Lauren Black Label Training

Late night….it’s alright!  We had an after hours training meeting last night that started at 8pm with a wonderful catered cocktail party by Chef Kate Leeder – YUM!  Our host was Ronny Baroody – the Brand Manager for Ralph Lauren Collection and Black Label.  He flew in from New York to educate and train our team on the Black Label collection. The seminar Ronny conducted was very informative and helpful.  Our team’s fashion expertise is a continuous process of education and training.  In turn, you can trust that when you shop at Leigh’s, our team is knowledgeable and informed about brands and trends – thus enabling us to find the right items to enhance your individual style!  Thank you to Ronny and Ralph Lauren Black Label for a great evening!

Ralph Lauren Black Label Trunk Show

Leigh’s is having a Ralph Lauren Black Label trunk show!!!   This is the first time any store in West Michigan has carried this collection – we are feeling quite honored! RL will be sending in a full assortment of fall 2010 merchandise for immediate purchase.  Yes, that’s right, you’ll get to wrap it up and take it home with you – no ordering required!  I know how busy you can be this time of year so, this trunk show will run from September 7 – 17 which hopefully gives you plenty of time to stop in and see this beautiful line.  The picture I have up is from RL Black Label’s showroom in NYC.  I know this is a really small picture – sorry – but hopefully it gives you a “little” taste of why we are very excited about this collection!
