Our Hot Party was hotter than ever this past week, in fact, it was SUPER HOT!  Patrick set the theme of our party around the upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel.   Our Leigh’s team was sporting Clark Kent press badges and glasses and, of course, Superman tees.  How SUPER fun was that?!  Thanks for being a part of our event and all the SUPER fun things we had in store for you.  As you know, we think our customers are SUPER incredible!!

Back From The Big Apple

Pic 1: Patrick Plank, Rebecca Wierda and Deb Wurfel take a moment in Central Park before one of the runway shows.  Pic 2:  Douglas Hannant spring ’13 runway presentation.  His inspiration for the season: ”A Daydream.”  Young, innocent, and lost in a field of lovely flowers.  Imagery of budding flowers was projected on the screens as the models walked the runway; truly stunning!  Pic 3:  Carolina Herrera showroom.  This was one of our favorite gowns that we viewed; it was a piece of modern art!  Pic 4:  After a full day of showroom appointments, we treated ourselves to a wonderful dinner at Bell, Book & Candle located in the West Village.  This farm to table restaurant has a roof-top garden that inspires their daily menu offering:  www.bbandcnyc.com.  Just a block away is another recommendation we received and I want to pass on to you – Rosemary’s:  www.rosemarysnyc.com.  You’ll love either one of them, so put them on your list for next time you’re in NYC.

We had an amazing trip to New York last week!  I just love being in The Big Apple during Fashion Week!  There’s so much energy; the runway shows are inspiring.  Then to see the trends and direction for spring ’13 fashion……well, it makes me think we’re all  going to need a bigger closet!

Leigh’s Has A New Baby!

Giovanna had her baby!  Brady John Reilly arrived on July 9.  He was a robust 6lbs 14oz and measured in at 22.5″ long.  He is perfectly healthy and amazingly beautiful….but how could he not be with such attractive parents!?!  Giovanna said I could share pictures with you.  Do you just love this picture of the little man?  So precious!  Look at Giovanna and Brian….beaming proud new parents!  We are so happy for you!  Congratulations!

4th of July

I just love the 4th of July!  It’s such a fun holiday.  Yes, it’s our country’s celebration of independence, but it’s also a great excuse to secure some new fashion!  My family’s day of festivities begins at 11am with the Grandville 4th of July community parade which we attend with our friends the Segards.  This is actually our 10th anniversary of attending the parade together. It’s such wonderful, wholesome family fun.  One thing that my friend Tina taught me early on,  is that you only show up at the parade with your entire family decked out from head to toe in red, white and blue. (The first year we went with the Segards, our attire was multicolored. Tina was not pleased….and the group picture of our families that year is not nearly as cute as the other years. Hey, what can I say, we didn’t know, but we did learn!)  So every year a shopping excursion is needed to secure patriotic attire for the entire family.  Fortunately, when it comes to what I will wear, I can take a lap in the store the morning before (as I did this morning) and come up with an adorable ensemble that Tina will be proud of!  This year I will be sporting a red Skinny Tee layered with a blue Michael Stars dress that has a white pin stripe running through it and some, oh so darling, red Cole Haan sandals.  And if I must confess, I couldn’t help myself, I also splurged on a pair of Dolce & Gabana sunglasses.  (You know how sunny it’s going to be!) Now after our parade going, we are off to my parent’s house on Lake Michigan for a day at the beach, a shrimp boil (another favorite of mine) and evening fireworks. For me, this is a perfect holiday! Parade + Lake Michigan + Family & Friends = Happiness!

Enjoy your 4th!  And don’t forget to wear your red, white and blue!

Leigh’s Recognized By VAI

Leigh’s has been a supporter of the Van Andel Institute for the past five years through an event called Couture for a Cure.  Every October, Leigh’s presents a New York style runway show of fall fashions that are in our store and, in addition, we host a guest designer from New York to present their spring collection on our runway.  Couture for a Cure is such a successful event and continues to grow in attendance and in funds raised every year.

This past Wednesday, I was invited to a special donor reception at the Van Andel Institute.  As true with all events at VAI, it was a wonderful gathering.  However, I didn’t realize that everyone there was in for a special surprise.  David Van Andel, chairman and CEO of VAI,  spoke at the event and discussed all the break-through research and educational opportunities that are occurring at the Institute – so impressive! At the end of his remarks, the pipe and draping was removed from the sides and there were two beautiful wood walls with donor names revealed.  Yes, Leigh’s was honored on this list.  As well as having our store name on the wall, we received this beautiful recognition award.   I was so proud of our store and team that I wanted to share this with you and thank you for supporting Couture for a Cure.

We are proud, not only to partner with the Van Andel Institute, but many other worthwhile non-profit groups, community or corporate foundations, schools and other organizations to assist in making our West Michigan communities strong and vibrant.  It’s important to us to give back to our community!
